Registered nurses at Los Alamitos Medical Center and seven other Tenet Healthcare-owned facilities in California plan to stage a one-day strike Friday, Sept. 20 to protest staffing they allege is inadequate and impacting patient care.
The other California facilities are in Modesto, San Ramon, Turlock, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Templeton and San Luis Obispo. Nurses at Tenet hospitals in Arizona and Florida plan to strike the same day.
The nurses are urging management to boost recruitment and retention of experienced RNs, which would lighten their workload and help ensure optimal patient care.
The 350 RNs at Los Alamitos Medical Center are members of the California Nurses Association, which is affiliated with National Nurses United, the largest union of registered nurses in the U.S. with 150,000 members.
