Sergeant E.A.S Ekanayake of the 7 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), now a resident at Pangolla 'Abimansala - 3' undergoing rehabilitation and recuperation after injuries he sustained while fighting against LTTE terrorism in Periyamadu before May 2009, turned a new leaf in his life having entered bonds of matrimony on Thursday (24) during a wedding ceremony at the SLSR Regimental Headquarters in Ambepussa.
The glamorous wedding ceremony jointly organized by the SLSR Regimental Headquarters and the SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit on the guidelines given by Colonel of the Regiment Major General Piyal Wickramaratne saw the wedding being witnessed by Mrs Anoma Fonseka, Chairperson, Rana Viru Seva Authority and the Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR as witnesses to the couple.
His bride, Ms Madumi Lanka Hemamali of Ihala Mabula has been in romance with this War Hero for the last couple of years and insisted on their marriage, irrespective of her fiancé's physical disability.
Typical Poruwa ceremony, marriage registration, wedding cake-cutting, exchange of gifts between relatives of the couple, recital of greetings and expression of best wishes added colour and dignity to the occasion, entertained by melodies played by members of the SLSR music band.
Mrs Anoma Fonseka, Chairperson, Rana Viru Seva Authority, Mrs Ruwani Sujeewa Wickramaratne, Chairperson, SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit, together with Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, Colonel of the Regiment SLSR attended the ceremony as distinguished guests.
Major General Chandana Rajaguru (Rtd), Major General Duminda Kappetiwalana, Major General L.F Kasthuriarachchi, Brigadier Hemantha Kulathunga, Brigadier Ajith Pallawela SLSR, Centre Commandant, senior ladies of the SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks, relatives of both parties enjoyed the ceremony that went into late afternoon on that day.
