Following the recent acquisition by Access International, Ninewells Hospital – the nation’s pioneering Mother and Baby Care Hospital, recently declared open its blood bank. Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, past president of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) was the chief guest of the inauguration.
Situated on the 3rd Floor (New Wing) of Ninewells Hospital, the blood bank serves primary needs of providing blood and blood products with minimum delay to patients especially under state of emergency. The blood bank will be under the supervision of consultants, medical and nursing officers with special training who will conduct sampling of tests and issuing of reports, around the clock.
Currently, the blood bank carries out procedures that include Inpatient and Outpatient blood grouping, as per the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Blood Transfusion Service, as well as reserving and issuing blood for all inward patients.
